Shannon and Charlie are two truly special people, and I’ve been lucky enough to follow their love story behind the lens for a while now. I’ve photographed their proposal, their engagement party, the welcome party to the engagement party (yes, they know how to celebrate in style), and now… their intimate civil ceremony.
This San Diego elopement was something extra special. Charlie is in the military and heading out on deployment soon, so the two decided to exchange vows at the Bayfront Downtown Courthouse—just the two of them, no guests, no fuss, just love. I was their only witness, along with their sweet pup who joined us after the ceremony for photos outside.
It was quiet, personal, and deeply meaningful—proof that a wedding doesn’t have to be big to be beautiful. Scroll through, and you’ll see it for yourself: the way they look at each other says everything.

The CEREMONY

Shannon really wanted to embrace the courthouse vibe of it all. She wasn’t just there for the vows—she wanted the whole experience documented. From walking through the doors and checking in under the adorable “Getting Married Starts Here” sign, to the quiet moments of waiting for their turn, every detail mattered.
And that’s exactly what we did. I stayed with them from start to finish, capturing not just the “big” moments, but the in-between ones—the smiles, the nervous laughs, the little squeezes of the hand. They got to simply be present with each other, soaking in the day, while I made sure all those feelings and details would live on in their photos.

Court House Portraits

Because we were embracing those courthouse vibes, we decided to spend some time inside for their post-ceremony portraits. I’ve photographed at the Bayfront Downtown Courthouse before, but this was my first time using the insidespaces for portraits instead of heading straight outside. And let me tell you—WOW. The GOLD, the light, the lines… absolutely stunning.
I always make an effort to understand your vision before the session—are you dreaming of those bright, breezy bayfront shots outside, the sleek and modern look inside the courthouse, or both? They’re equally gorgeous, but if one isn’t your style, it’s always helpful to know ahead of time so we can make the most of your day.
Now that I’ve seen how beautiful this space is, I feel like I’ll always make time for portraits here if you're into this look. It’s the perfect mix of modern elegance and understated romance—an unexpected gem for a San Diego elopement.

OUTDOOR PORTRAITS

After our time inside, we stepped out to take advantage of the incredible architecture. This courthouse really is something special—truly the best backdrop for a civil ceremony in San Diego. One of my favorite spots is this gorgeous tree just outside; it frames couples so beautifully, and it’s become a must-have shot for me.
The best part? Shannon and Charlie’s sweet pup joined us outside, and we captured a handful of photos with him. Those shots brought such a fun, personal touch to the day—proof that courthouse weddings can be just as meaningful, stylish, and joy-filled as any other celebration.

Re-Living Their First Date

To wrap up our time together, I walked with Shannon and Charlie to Topsail, the spot where they had their very first date. We captured a few sweet photos before they recreated the evening—ordering the exact same cocktails and sitting at the very same table. It was adorable and so full of nostalgia.
Afterward, they strolled hand in hand along the bayfront, just as they did that evening, soaking in the views and each other’s company. It was the perfect ending to their San Diego elopement—simple, meaningful, and entirely them.
